Applications of Deep Learning, an advanced from of AI, in healthcare have dramatically helped in the improvement of the performance of pathologists who are trying to diagnose breast cancer in the most efficient manner.

CAMELYON, a competition project born out of RUMC, caught global attention when Kaggle embraced it and thousands participated in teams to solve breast cancer with deep learning. Babak is our AI researcher from the Netherlands who participated in this project and currently works with leading AI researchers within Qualcomm and in the industry including Max Welling from the University of Amsterdam who is currently VP at Qualcomm.

He is currently focused on advanced models that focus on the efficiency of AI models such as conditional computation.

In this talk, we will focus on how Babak advanced his career in AI from humble beginnings to becoming the world’s leading research engineer and data scientist.
